Founded in 2008 by David Belt, Macro Sea exists as a series of collaborations between experts in a wide variety of disciplines. We work with artists, architects, designers, scientists, lawyers, city governments, financiers, arts organizations, and others.

Macro Sea has executed projects in the built environment and conceptual realms, in New York City and around the world. Our work has been featured in MoMA and the Venice Biennale.

Our mission is to do projects that we find interesting, working with people we love:

Our ongoing collaboration with the Vincentians allowed us to rethink and restore some of their historic seminary buildings for contemporary residents.

In Rome we converted Collegio Leoniano, a historically significant but underused seminary, into a welcoming space for financially challenged young people studying abroad, many of whom had never left New York before they ended up in Rome.

In Paris we added educational and dormitory facilities for American students studying abroad. The current owners now live side-by-side with their American neighbors.

And in Princeton we reimagined a former seminary as an educational campus, bringing in revenue while respecting the heritage and character of the site.
