Founded in 2008 by David Belt, Macro Sea exists as a series of collaborations between experts in a wide variety of disciplines. We work with artists, architects, designers, scientists, lawyers, city governments, financiers, arts organizations, and others.

Macro Sea has executed projects in the built environment and conceptual realms, in New York City and around the world. Our work has been featured in MoMA and the Venice Biennale.

Our mission is to do projects that we find interesting, working with people we love:

2015
Nakivale, Uganda / Navy Yard, Brooklyn

Patrick Muvunga builds community spaces in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. His organization, Opportunigee, offers support to refugees who, like Patrick, come to Nakivale with talent and drive but few resources. Macro Sea and Newlab are collaborating with Opportunigee to build spaces for innovation beyond shelter, creating dignified housing and vibrant public spaces. Our pilot project will house 500 people, completely designed and built by residents of Nakivale and led by Patrick.
