Founded in 2008 by David Belt, Macro Sea exists as a series of collaborations between experts in a wide variety of disciplines. We work with artists, architects, designers, scientists, lawyers, city governments, financiers, arts organizations, and others.

Macro Sea has executed projects in the built environment and conceptual realms, in New York City and around the world. Our work has been featured in MoMA and the Venice Biennale.

Our mission is to do projects that we find interesting, working with people we love:

Mobile Pools

2010
Outside Grand Central Station, Manhattan

After the success of our dumpster lido in Brooklyn — the Department of Health liked the idea but not the execution — we got an invitation from the New York City Mayor’s Office and the Department of Transportation to participate in NYC’s third annual Summer Streets. With our new friends at the DoH, we adapted the pools into street-legal, code-compliant dumpsters for swimming, and set up our first public mobile pools in front of Grand Central and the Park Avenue Viaduct.
